Why is NSCPastPapers free?
South Africa has one of the most unequal education systems in the world. A private matric tutor in Sandton or Sea Point routinely charges R350–R600 an hour. A full year of extra maths and science lessons can cost more than a family in a township or rural village earns in a month. Meanwhile, the very papers a learner needs to practise on — the official Department of Basic Education (DBE) past papers — are public documents paid for with public money. It never sat right with us that access to them, and to patient one-on-one tutoring built around them, should depend on postcode or income.
NSCPastPapers exists to close that gap. Every past paper, every memorandum, every AI conversation with our tutor Nae, every generated flashcard, quiz, worked-solution and predicted final mark — all of it is free, forever, for every Grade 8 to Grade 12 learner in the country. There is no free trial that expires, no “pro” tier that unlocks the useful features, and no credit card required to sign up. If you can open this page on a cracked-screen phone in a taxi on the way home from school, you have exactly the same tools as a learner sitting behind a MacBook in a private school computer lab.
The service is funded by unobtrusive Google AdSense advertising shown only on our content pages — the study guides, subject library and blog. We deliberately do not show ads on the AI tutor, the marks predictor, the flashcard tool or on your account screens, because those pages are for concentration, not for clicking. It’s a simple trade-off: you tolerate a few relevant adverts around the edges of the site, and in return every learning tool inside the site stays free for the learners who need it most.

Every official DBE Grade 12 NSC paper from 2019 to 2025 — both the November finals and the May/June supplementary sittings — with the matching memorandum for each paper. That covers Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Geography, History, English Home Language, English First Additional Language, and every other NSC subject the DBE examines. For Grade 10 and 11 we link straight to the curated Gauteng Department of Education archive so you can practise on the same style of paper you’ll write in your own school exam.

- You can browse the past-paper library, read study guides and use the marks predictor without signing up. Signing up (free) unlocks unlimited AI-tutor conversations, saved flashcard decks and progress tracking across your subjects.
- How do you afford to give a full AI tutor away for free?
- Advertising on our content pages covers our hosting, database and AI-model costs. Every rand we earn from ads goes back into paying for the AI compute that powers Nae, so the more learners use us, the more ads we serve, the more compute we can afford — it’s a virtuous loop that keeps the tutor free.
- Are the ads safe for children?
- We use Google AdSense, which filters ads against Google’s Family-safe policy. Ads never appear on the AI tutor, on account or authentication pages, or on interactive study tools — they only appear on content pages such as the subject library and blog.
- Do I need a fast phone or laptop?
- No. The site is optimised for the kind of budget Android phones most South African learners actually use. Past-paper PDFs open in your phone’s built-in reader, and the AI tutor works fine on slow 3G — just expect a couple of seconds longer for responses.
